Dr. Chris Cummins

Chief Clinical Director

About

Chris Cummins is passionate about providing trauma-informed, compassionate, and high-quality care for the people in our community. He was born and raised in Las Vegas and graduated from Cimarron-Memorial High School. Chris received his Bachelor’s degree in Human Services from UNLV, specializing in Addictions Treatment and Family Studies. After, he graduated from Regis University with his Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. Chris is formally trained in Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and is proficient in the best practices of Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT).

In the substance abuse counseling field, Chris understands that family has a significant impact on recovery from addiction. He built his specialty in serving families and oversaw the Family Services Department for Jefferson County Human Services in Colorado. To maximize effectiveness within his agency, Chris established a multi-tiered case management system called the Family Tiered System of Supports (FTSS), which he presented at the Family Engagement and Cultural Effectiveness Conference in Honolulu, Hawaii. As an innovator in family services, Chris was awarded the “Visionary of the Year Award” by Jefferson County in 2019.

The FTSS model is now used nationally at various behavioral health programs and Head Start organizations. After creating the model, Chris designed a consultation group for Head Starts in the Denver-Metropolitan region which resulted in significantly improved outcomes for children and families in their communities. During that time, Chris also worked diligently to become a tenured Family Therapist at The Marriage and Family Clinic; voted 3-time (2017, 2018, and 2019) consecutive “Family Favorite” in the Colorado Parent Magazine.

Chris moved back to his hometown of Las Vegas in 2020 and currently, he serves on the Board of Directors for the Village of Hope 501(c)(3) non-profit. He is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the State of Nevada and State of Colorado. Chris specializes in addiction and is a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor. Additionally, Chris is an AAMFT Approved Supervisor – Candidate with the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. Most significantly, Chris leads the clinical department as Chief Clinical Officer for Vegas Stronger.
