To beat the stigma associated with alcoholism, addiction, and recovery, Vegas Stronger™ has started to profile celebrities that fought through their own public downfalls and made it back on top. According to reports, worldwide rap sensation Eminem got sober on April 20th, 2008, marking five months after undergoing a near fatal overdose.
During the peak of his career, Eminem was creating award-winning music along with battling his addiction to alcohol and drugs. The singer recently marked 13 years of sobriety. Initially he got hooked on prescription opioids, and later mixed them with other mood-altering prescription drugs and alcohol.
Eminem had a couple of trips to rehab, before getting sober once and for all. He credits his kids for inspiring him to stay clean and healthy. The chart-topping musician got serious about recovery and put his all into saving his life including detox, rehab and 12 Step work.
Exercise was key for his mental and physical health as well, however he also had to find a happy and healthy balance by not overdoing working out, primarily running. Eminem’s weight had ballooned to 230 pounds in rehab, yet he dropped down to 149 pounds in a productive way.
Marking his most recent sobriety milestone, Eminem took to Instagram and wrote, “Clean dozen, in the books! I’m not afraid.” Congratulations to Slim Shady and all of us who continue to stay clean and sober one day at a time!
