We are showcasing public figures who beat the odds and got clean and sober after a publicized downfall, in order to break the stigma associated with alcoholism and addiction. Award-winning actress Heather Locklear has been in recovery for over three years, according to reports. The Melrose Place and Dynasty star got sober in April 2019, after having a couple of run-ins with the law due to being under the influence, and multiple rehab stays before turning her life around.
Locklear marked her one-year anniversary of being sober via Instagram on April 21, 2020, and posted, “I’ve learned that no matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow…I’ve learned that life sometimes gives you a second chance…I’ve learned that whenever I decide something with an open heart, I usually make the right decisions. I’ve learned that even when I have pains, I don’t have to be one.”
The California native got re-engaged to her fiancé and high school sweetheart Chris Heisser in April 2020 as well, after committing to long-term recovery. The Hollywood actress and producer took time out of the spotlight and healed mostly out of the public eye. Locklear previously stated that she was not sure that she would work again. After nearly five years, she returned to acting and starred in the Lifetime TV movie, Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff: The Kristine Carlson Story.
While promoting the film on Good Morning America, Locklear described working on the project, “'It was pretty easy. I didn't want to do anything silly. I wanted to do something that had its weight…and I prayed to God that whatever lands in my lap, I wanted it to be spiritual.” Congratulations Heather Locklear on your commitment to sobriety, Vegas Stronger™ is rooting for you!
