What is LegitScript?

LegitScript Certification is a credential awarded to healthcare-related businesses & websites that demonstrate a commitment to legality, quality care, and patient safety. LegitScript certification is a credential provided by LegitScript, a third-party organization that supports Google in evaluating and verifying the legitimacy and compliance of healthcare businesses worldwide. Only businesses that LegitScript has certified as trustworthy are allowed to advertise on Google.

Why is LegitScript Needed?

With the increase of substance use disorders, there have been some companies who have tried to profit off of patients and their loved ones. Additionally, as substance use disorders rise in America, some companies try to meet the needs of patients but fall short in quality care, which can be dangerous. The LegitScript drug and alcohol addiction treatment certification process is rigorous and thorough. It is trusted by major companies that provide advertising to consumers such as Google and Meta. It ensure that if you are advertising yourself as a drug and alcohol treatment center, you meet rigorous requirements associated with safety, policy compliance, and legality.

Examples of what LegitScript evaluates when a treatment center applies and renews:

• Privacy: The applicant must comply with all provisions of applicable laws and regulations, and HIPAA or similar privacy provisions. When required by law, the applicant must post its privacy policy on its website.
  
• Medication Assisted Treatment: Any use or recommended use of pharmaceutical interactions shall be limited to drugs that are permissible by the appropriate regulatory authority, and may not rely on miracle cures, designer drugs, or unapproved drugs.
  
• Business Practices: None of the applicant's business practices may engage in practices or extend offers that may deceive or defraud patients or the public in any way, including but not limited to any material detail regarding the treatment facility.
  
• Staff Qualifications: The applicant must provide to LegitScript adequate documentation establishing that the applicant's clinical staff who offer substance use treatment have expertise and training in addiction treatment, including a medical director and/or a clinical psychologist with addiction training. In some cases, an on-site medical practitioner will be required.
  
• Legal Compliance: The applicant must comply with all applicable laws. This includes, but is not limited to, state laws and regulations, and all relevant licensing requirements for addiction treatment facilities or other activities it is engaged in.
