Detox Treatment

The path to recovery begins with the physiological separation from the substance. At Vegas Stronger™ we assess clients same-day and determine the best site of service for detox, a taper, or integration into immediate treatment if the treatment needs to be psychological and or physiological.

Vegas Stronger™ is one of the leading experts in Nevada for addiction treatment and alcohol rehab. Our multidisciplinary team of compassionate healthcare providers has decades of experience in treating the biological-based disease of alcoholism. We offer a personalized, individual treatment plan for each client. Each treatment plan aims at helping each client recover from alcohol and or substance use disorders so they can achieve their full potential.

We have immediate access to treatment with walk-in availability and we always work hard to get our clients longer treatment durations. As a nonprofit, we are focused on helping everyone. We welcome all humans, 18 years and older. We have government-funded programs for those who are experiencing homelessness or those who do not have insurance, as we as the acceptance of most insurance. Sliding scales are available.

Detox Process

Detox is the safe removal of drugs and/or alcohol from the body in order for the client to start treatment without toxins in the body and without physical dependence on the drugs or alcohol. It is important to understand the difference between a detox program and a rehabilitation program; although ”detox” and “rehab” are often used interchangeably, rehabilitation involves a multitude of services that aim to socially and psychologically rehabilitate someone suffering from substance abuse. Medical detox, on the other hand, is a type of treatment that seeks to medically stabilize patients, minimize their withdrawal symptoms, prevent the potentially harmful effects of withdrawal, and help them transition into a substance abuse rehabilitation program.

Stages of Detox Treatment:

  • Evaluation: Medical professionals screen incoming patients for physical and mental health issues. Doctors use blood tests to measure the number of drugs in the patient’s system. This helps determine the drugs in the person's system, the level of medications needed, and any other indicators that special care or observance is needed.
  • Stabilization: It is the responsibility of the medical team to stabilize the patient with medical and psychological therapy. The goal of stabilization is to prevent any form of harm to the patient. Doctors can prescribe addiction treatment medications to prevent complications and reduce withdrawal symptoms.
  • Treatment: Detox alone is rarely sufficient to help a person sustain long-term recovery as it doesn’t address the complex psychological and social aspects of substance use. Detoxification prepares the clients for their next ideal phase of rehabilitation, which may be short-term residential treatment, long-term residential treatment, or outpatient care.

Medication-Assisted Treatment

Oftentimes detox is not the optimal treatment plan for a client. We treat co-occurring disorders and our treatments are enhanced with medication-assisted treatment when needed. We have prescribers on staff to address both mental health disorders, as well as substance use disorders. We address impaired control, physical dependence, social problems, and risky use and bring 13 proven strategies for addressing substance use disorders.

When addiction is confirmed, the use of medication-assisted treatment (MAT), such as Buprenorphine (Suboxone, Subutex), Vivitrol (Naltrexone), ReVia, & Campral have proven to be highly effective in:

  • Lowering overdose risk
  • Decreasing risk for HIV and Hepatitis C
  • Increasing patient retention in treatment

Types of MAT:

  • Vivitrol is 380 mg delivered intramuscularly every 4 weeks or once a month
  • Campral is two 333 mg tablets taken three times daily
  • ReVia is 50 mg tablet taken once daily
  • Suboxone sublingual film is usually 16 mg/4 mg as a single daily dose
  • Subutex sublingual tablet administered as a single daily dose
  • Methadone available as a tablet, liquid or an injection. Start at 2.5 to 5 mg bid to tid increase by 2.5 to 5 mg per day every 1-2 weeks
  • Antabuse The average maintenance dose is 250 mg daily (range, 125 to 500 mg), it should not exceed 500 mg daily.
  • Wellbutrin dosage varies

Tapering

Tapering consists of weaning a person off medication in an effort to ease withdrawal symptoms. This typically involves clinical staff administering medications in slowly decreasing doses following a specific schedule. The technique is sometimes used when medications are administered for benzodiazepine, alcohol, or opioid withdrawal. Tapering requires that clinical professionals in a drug detox environment exercise their best judgment as well as employ tools and protocols when making decisions about tapering.

Common Withdrawal Symptoms

  • Nervousness or anxiety
  • Insomnia
  • Nausea
  • Body discomfort
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Shaking
  • Nausea
  • Headaches
  • Mood swings
  • Poor sleep
