Vegas Stronger Announces Expansive Success in Tackling Homelessness with Holistic Treatment-First Model

PRESS RELEASE

Published June 10, 2025

Vegas Stronger expands behavioral health and housing programs, achieving measurable recovery milestones among Las Vegas’ underserved populations.

United States, 10th Jun 2025 – Vegas Stronger, a Las Vegas-based nonprofit organization, is reshaping the fight against homelessness through a treatment-first strategy that addresses addiction, mental illness, and systemic social barriers. Cofounded by Dr. David Marlon, the initiative moves beyond short-term fixes by prioritizing free behavioral healthcare alongside essential services like food, housing, and transportation.

In contrast to the traditional shelter-first or punitive models that dominate urban homeless outreach, Vegas Stronger adopts a health-centered model. Their method begins with immediate access to care–a crucial differentiator that bypasses lengthy waiting lists seen in many treatment facilities. With services such as medication-assisted treatment (MAT), therapy, and peer support, the organization fosters both immediate and long-term recovery.

Expanding Access and Impact

The demand for Vegas Stronger’s model has steadily grown. In 2024 alone, the organization served over 1,600 individuals experiencing homelessness and facilitated more than 19,000 behavioral healthcare visits. This volume underscores both the scale of the crisis in Southern Nevada and the trust the community places in Vegas Stronger’s approach.

Average treatment durations extend to approximately 5.5 months–far surpassing industry standards–and contribute significantly to the program’s outcomes. More than half of all graduates find stable housing or employment post-treatment, marking a strong departure from cyclical relapse or recidivism.

Holistic Services for Sustainable Recovery

Vegas Stronger integrates a full suite of care offerings to address the layered challenges faced by its clients. These include:

  • Individual and group therapy
  • Case management
  • Nutritional education
  • Physical fitness programs
  • Peer-to-peer support networks

These services work in concert to rebuild the social, emotional, and physical wellbeing of participants.

Additionally, the organization’s Mobile Response Team (MRT), a more recent innovation, addresses high-risk, high-utilization populations. It delivers acute intervention and crisis stabilization outside of emergency departments. By doing so, it reduces strain on public health systems and connects individuals to treatment pathways more effectively.

Community Outreach and Regional Expansion

A hallmark of Vegas Stronger’s mission is its assertive outreach strategy. Trained professionals regularly work in Las Vegas’ shelters and streets, bringing resources directly to those in need. This approach removes a significant barrier to care: the necessity for individuals to initiate contact.

As part of its growth strategy, Vegas Stronger has extended its model to broader Nevada. In 2024, it launched Nevada Stronger, bringing services to rural Nye County as well as urban areas like Reno and Washoe County. These new operations replicate Vegas Stronger’s comprehensive model for localized impact.

Further enhancing its service capacity, the organization acquired Neubauer Mental Health Services in 2023 and, a year later, purchased ABC Therapy–the state’s largest Spanish-speaking mental health provider. These acquisitions allow the nonprofit to offer culturally competent care and expand access across diverse populations.

Investing in Long-Term Housing Solutions

Recognizing the pivotal role of stable housing in recovery, Vegas Stronger acquired the Recovery Regency Hotel in downtown Las Vegas. This space will soon provide short-term sober-living accommodations for clients transitioning from treatment to independent living.

This investment aligns with the organization’s belief that behavioral health and housing support must go hand-in-hand to prevent relapse and reentry into homelessness.

Measurable Outcomes and Lasting Results

Since its founding, Vegas Stronger has reported the following measurable outcomes:

  • Over 2,200 individuals served
  • 86% of graduates remain free from substance abuse
  • 50% of graduates are housed
  • 50% are employed

These statistics reflect the efficacy of a holistic, long-duration treatment approach. They also indicate a shift in how communities and policymakers might consider the interplay between health and homelessness in future planning.

A Scalable, Compassionate Blueprint

Vegas Stronger Announces Expansive Success in Tackling Homelessness with Holistic Treatment-First Model

Vegas Stronger’s comprehensive model–rooted in assertive outreach, immediate treatment access, and long-term housing solutions–is not just addressing homelessness but preventing its recurrence. By treating substance use and mental illness as foundational challenges rather than peripheral issues, the nonprofit has become a vital fixture in Nevada’s continuum of care.

Its expansion beyond Las Vegas underscores the replicability of its model and highlights a scalable path forward for other municipalities grappling with homelessness and behavioral health crises.
