Alex Cortes serves as a Shelter Outreach Specialist and is extremely passionate about helping others. Sober for over 14 years, Alex had dedicated his life to being of service. The Los Angeles native works as a community liaison and spreads the message about our mission to end homelessness and recover from drugs and alcohol.
The father of 3 is a living example that one can break the chain of addiction. Of his work Alex states, “I love my time here at Vegas Stronger because if you love what you do, it doesn’t feel like work. Before working here, I really didn’t think about the reality of what our homeless population faces every day. There are resources out there to help them and get them back on their feet. Our mission gives them hope and an opportunity for a new way of life.”
Alex loves giving back to his community as well, “I am bilingual, and my interest is in helping the Latino community as we are underserved. It is challenging in Las Vegas as there aren’t enough dual speaking counselors and resources. I want to be an example that even though I came from a hard life in the streets with the disease of addiction, there is a way out.”
Our Shelter Outreach Specialist has established genuine relationships across Sin City with homeless shelters, detox facilities, rehabs, women’s shelters, sober living environments, halfway houses, resource centers, business owners and local governments that work alongside Vegas Stronger. He has lived in Las Vegas since 1995. Alex Cortes added, “When I see a casino at the state line, I know that I am home. My kids were born here. But I still love the Dodgers.”
